The Wabash Arts Corridor was launched by the Colombia College in Chicago in 2013. It has since transformed areas of downtown – centered around the South Loop area – through murals and art installations.
Rhyolite is a ghost town on the edge of Death Valley National Park just across the border in Nevada. During the gold rush it was a boom town after some ore was found in the surrounding hills. You can still see mine entrances on the hill that’s very aptly called Bonanza Mountain.
Where does one even start when writing about Death Valley National Park? With 3 million acres of land with Telescope Peak at 11,000 feet and Badwater Basin 280 feet below, I barely scratched the surface of the park. It still was my favorite part of the trip.

Salton Sea was our second destination of my Southern California desert trip last spring. It is the largest lake in California – and a man made one at that. The Salton Sea was formed by mistake in the Coachella valley when irrigation canals from the Colorado River overflowed in 1905. It took 2 years to fix the overflow and by the time the lake was formed.

I went on a southern California desert trip last spring with my Arcanum master Beau Rogers and some other photographers from my photography cohort. It was such an incredible experience and I have been wanting to write about it. So I will start with our first destination of Anza Borrego and work my way up to Death Valley. Anza Borrego is the largest state park in California spreading out at 600,000 acres.
